7 Super-Fun Indoor Activities for Kids and Adults This Easter

10 April 2025

The much-awaited Easter school holiday isn’t far away, the perfect time for a relaxing break, Easter bunnies, cheeky egg hunts, endless hot cross buns, and road trips. Across Australia, the Easter school hols are a great chance to explore - there are so many indoor activities going on up and down the country.

Keep in mind that Anzac Day might tweak your plans with its unique midday start in some states, so plan smart!

That being said, the Easter school holidays do present a few hurdles, like how do you keep the entire family happy and entertained without resorting to eating your weight in chocolate eggs?

Don’t worry, though - we’ve pulled together some family-friendly, super-fun indoor activities to try out near Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Melbourne over the Easter school holidays.

1. Indoor skydiving at iFLY

Most of us dream of flying. Maybe as a hawk or a caped crusader like Superman - or even on a magic carpet. Now, you can live and breathe that dream today. No need to worry about the weather… this indoor parachuting adventure's all inside!  It should be number one on your activity list this Easter holiday.

Strap in and experience the flying for real, without the jumping-out-of-a-plane part. Our indoor wind tunnel skydiving experience is excellent for all ages and just what you need when you want to add a bit of aerial awesomeness to the school holidays.

We recommend booking early before the Easter school hols roll around. After all, you don’t want to be disappointed, do you? Tickets get snapped up fast.

What’s indoor skydiving like?

Otherwise known as ‘wind tunnel indoor skydiving’ or ‘air tunnel skydiving’, this nerve-inducing activity is becoming a must-try alternative to outdoor skydiving. So much so that it’s been widely deemed an Olympic sport!

How does an indoor skydiving parachute jump simulator work?

Thinking of skydiving but not so smitten with the whole jumping-out-of-a-plane thing? Indoor skydiving is made for you. Here’s what to expect:

  • Safe and sound: Rather than dropping out of a plane from 15,000 feet, you’ll fly in a super-safe setting with fully-trained instructors.
  • How it works: You just float effortlessly on a cushion of air in our ginormous vertical wind tunnel.
  • The setup: These tunnels aren’t your average tube – they're about 10 metres tall and surrounded by thick, sturdy glass. Massive fans at the base pump out winds as fast as 200 km/h to keep you airborne.
  • The science bit: It’s all about ‘drag’ rather than ‘lift’ here, countering gravity to imitate that freefall feeling. It’s just you floating on the wind.

And the best bit? You’ll feel like you’re flying without actually stepping off solid earth. You get the excitement of jumping without the jump.

Find an iFLY location near you in Brisbane, Melbourne or Perth this Easter school holiday. Fancy flying? Book now.

2. Virtual reality gaming arcades

Next on our list of indoor activities adults and kids will love over the Easter school holidays is [drum roll] virtual reality (VR). VR gaming arcades are popping up all over Australia. You and your crew will get stuck into a mix of adventures that could take you from the deep sea to the outer clutches of space in a single afternoon.

Brisbane: Swing by Zero Latency, a free-roam, multi-player VR experience. Battle zombies, solve mind-bending puzzles or discover new worlds in an incredibly realistic setting. A superb way to try out new experiences without stepping outdoors when you don’t want those chilly April mornings.

Sydney: Virtual Room is an award-winning collaborative VR experience teeming with immersive gaming and team-based puzzles to crack.

Melbourne: Apsis VR is where you experience story-driven escape room adventures with your friends and family - a fab way to spend the Easter school holidays!

3. Art and craft studios

Looking for something a bit more laid-back but equally engaging? Check out some local art and craft studios. These creative havens are fab for kiddos who love getting their hands dirty and grown-ups who might discover (or rediscover) a passion for painting, pottery, or even jewellery making.

Brisbane: Cork & Chroma lets little and big kids enjoy a night out painting over a glass of wine or beer with all the materials needed. Adults and kiddies will be taught by an expert artist about how to concoct their own canvas painting.

Gold Coast: Get crafty at The Craft Parlour, a lively hub that's all about painting, pottery, and more in a laid-back, friendly atmosphere. Here, you and your loved ones enjoy creative sessions, making everything from home decor to personal masterpieces.

Lots of studios offer themed sessions during the Easter school holidays, so you might even end up painting eggs that won’t melt in your hand. Or make bunny masks (or other handmade keepsakes) that’ll be a surefire hit at any autumn gathering.

4. Escape rooms

Enjoy a good challenge? Escape rooms offer a beautiful blend of excitement and mystery. You’ll get to test out your problem-solving skills, not to mention teamwork. Puzzle out cryptic clues, reveal hidden doors, race against the clock… Every minute will be breathtaking.

    • Melbourne: A good pick is Strike Escape Rooms. And again, it has locations across Australia, like Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.
  • Sydney:
Escape Hunt is packed with excitement. You and your family will leap into new worlds and try your luck at ground-breaking missions.
  • Perth: Introducing Escape This, one of Australia’s more gripping escape rooms. Based in the middle of the CBD on Hay Street Mall, you’ll tackle 15 completely absorbing experiences. And with around 200 rooms to pick from, you’ll have trouble deciding which to go for.

Find themed escape rooms ranging from haunted hotels to secret spy missions all across the likes of Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and the Gold Coast. It’s an ideal indoor activity for kids and adults – everyone will experience adventure.

5. Indoor aquatic centres

Water-loving families must check out one of Australia’s top indoor aquatic centres over the Easter school holidays.

  • Sydney: Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre has plenty of giant water slides, wave pools, and interactive water games, so it’s fun for all ages.
  • Brisbane: Up for a very watery family adventure? You’ll love Chermside Aquatic Centre. It has plenty of wild water slides, swimming pools, and splash pools that guarantee a splash-tastic time for everyone.

Plus, it’s a top remedy for rainy-day autumn blues and a fab way for youngsters to burn off some of that infinite energy. It’s also a good shout if little ones aren’t into intense activities but still want to join in on the holiday fun.

6. Climbing gyms

If you’re after a bit of a vertical challenge this Easter, climbing gyms will keep the whole family pack active and engaged.

  • Sydney: 9 Degrees in Sydney has walls for every skill level, so it’s a win-win spot for newbies and climbing connoisseurs alike.
  • Gold Coast: Live further afield? Try Core. It’s great if you’re looking for high-energy fun over the school holidays. Climbing’s challenging, rewarding, and super social - you and your family will adore it.

It's a full-body workout with ample problem-solving to tackle those routes. And the best part? It’s all indoors, so you won’t have to worry about the weather playing spoilsport on your plans.

7. Museum tours

Or maybe you’re after a more easy-going yet enriching experience. If so, plan a museum tour.

  • Melbourne: Museums like the Melbourne Museum offer fascinating exhibits. You’ll be transported from dinosaur dens to the depths of the ocean.
  • Perth: Want to know more about Western Australia’s countless stories? Take a trip to the WA Museum Boola Bardip. Here, you’ll learn about the Spinifex people, plus the State’s rich cultural and natural heritage. Don’t miss the museum shop and, when you need a quick top-up, Epoch Cafe offers an impressive seasonal menu.

Over the Easter school holidays, many museums also host special workshops for kids. So, it’ll be educational yet fun for the whole family. It’s a chance to inspire young imaginations with stories from the past and insights into the future. Rather than being walk-and-look affairs, these tours are interactive so everyone can enjoy them.

Anzac Day considerations

  • Anzac Day heads-up: It lands right in the middle of the Easter break. Remember, there's a late start because of local laws – most places only open up from midday.
  • Morning plans: Why not start April 25th with a moment of reflection? Attending a dawn service is a powerful way to honour the ANZACs.
  • Afternoon adventures: Once the clock hits midday, it’s go-time for fun. Whether that’s feeling the rush at iFLY or getting hands-on at a local museum.
  • Pro tip: Always check opening times and book ahead of April 25th. This little bit of planning helps you squeeze every inch of fun out of your afternoon.
